Story time questions for parents

It's no surprise that parents want their children to work hard and do well at school.  But learning doesn't stop in the classroom -- it continues at home.  Neighborhood House encourages parents to be active in educating their children through family reading times, and by asking them about the stories they read at school.

Below you will find a list of story time questions to ask your child.

Neighborhood House has also created two informational brochures offering tips on how to improve your child's education at home and at school:

The Office of the Education Ombudsman has a wealth of resources available to parents, including publications in eight different languages (Cambodian, Chinese, English, Korean, Russian, Somali, Spanish and Vietnamese).  A general guide to the Office of the Education Ombudsman is available in 12 languages.

By scrolling below, you'll find information for parents to help ease their children's transition to elementary school and middle/high school in Amharic, Cambodian, English, Oromo, Somali, Spanish, Tigrigna and Vietnamese.

The elementary school information includes excerpts from Seattle School District, SOAR & The Foundation for Early Learning's Getting School Ready! materials. The middle/high school information includes excerpts from Seattle School District materials.

This recording project was coordinated by Neighborhood House using written materials produced by Seattle Public Schools, SOAR and the Foundation for Early Learning. Funding for this project came from the City of Seattle’s Families and Education Levy as part of the Seattle Public School’s Family Partnership project.
