Campaign Vision
The vision of the Neighborhood House Heart of High Point Community Campaign is to create the High Point Neighborhood Center (HPNC) – a home for vital programs servicing the most vulnerable members of the High Point community. The vision is simple. Owned by Neighborhood House, in one location the building will offer NH programs along with a collection of human service programs from other non-profit partner agencies.
Located in the heart of the newly redeveloped West Seattle mixed-income community, the HPNC will provide activities and services that connect neighbors, strengthen families, and support the development of a healthy, vibrant, green community. These services will address four essential areas:
- Early childhood education to prepare children for success in school and life.
- Youth education and enrichment to provide positive opportunities for young people.
- Adult and family services that support self-sufficiency and link residents to community resources.
- Community building activities that connect neighbors and build relationships that will bind this mixed income community together
Designed to some of the highest environmental design standards, the building will seek Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification at the gold level. Constructed in a way that leaves the smallest imprint on the earth, the HPNC will be a center for learning about energy conservation, the green economy and environmental stewardship. The choice of energy systems, furnishings, window placement, and signage will teach audiences of all ages about building materials and the use of energy and other vital resources. HPNC will also be an environmental education center where the community will learn about the incorporation of sustainable living practices to lessen their impact on the earth.
The High Point redevelopment is creating an entirely new community of attractive mixed-income homes and neighborhoods. While the physical environment of public housing and the High Point community will change as a result of redevelopment, the underlying causes of poverty will persist without the resources, services and support to empower low-income residents to reach their full potential and lift themselves out of poverty. The High Point Neighborhood Center will provide these resources.
