Our mission is to help diverse communities of people with limited resources attain their goals for self-sufficiency, financial independence, health and community building. Many of our staff members are immigrants or refugees themselves, who provide interpretation, information and referral services, senior assistance, early childhood education, employment services, along with teaching English and computer skills.

The after-school program is a cornerstone to Neighborhood House’s commitment to youth services in public housing communities. We’re located in two public housing sites: Park Lake Homes in White Center and Burndale Homes in Auburn. We help young people develop positive attitudes towards school, succeed academically and socially, and become active in their local community. Kids attending cover a wide age range – from kindergarten to high school. The year-round after-school and summer program includes: homework tutoring, academic assistance; social and personal development activities; literacy development and arts enrichment; community service projects; and family engagement activities.

In this position you’ll work with children, youth and families from many different cultures and backgrounds. Nearly all come from refugee and immigrant families from Southeast Asia, East Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America. For most families, English is not the first language spoken at home. All of our kids live below the federal poverty line.
