Child Development Department staff support the Neighborhood House mission framework and Strategic Plan by contributing to the school readiness of low-income children and supporting their parents, care givers and community. The primary responsibility of the Family Educator is to support both classroom services and family engagement by building children’s social competency and supporting parent engagement.

Program Planning, Design and Implementation
Promote and Support School Readiness and Family Engagement
- Assist in completing required documentation and reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assist in recruiting children and families as needed.
- Participate in site based team meetings, program and department events, and in one-on-one supervision and reflection throughout the program year.
- Complete and maintain current records ensuring confidentiality is observed.
- Participate fully in all scheduled professional development activities and maintain a commitment to ongoing professional growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Actively participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a high quality, inclusive early learning program.
- Plan and implement lesson plans aligned with NH’s chosen curriculum.
- Assist in creating a safe learning environment reflecting the diverse backgrounds of the participating children and families.
- Serve as a classroom co-teacher under the supervision of the Lead Teacher for a classroom.
- Take responsibility for specific classroom activities and tasks supervised by the Lead Teacher.
- Assume overall responsibilities of the classroom in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
- Work with classroom team to ensure all preparation, cleaning, sanitizing, and organizational tasks are complete per program policy and classroom need.
- Serve as the case manager for one classroom’s children and their families.
- Collaborate with the Health and Family Services Coordinator to ensure that children receive comprehensive health services. Assist families in identifying medical and dental services and arrange regular, ongoing preventative health care appointments as needed. Provide assistance in the administration and documentation of health and developmental screenings in order to facilitate the screening process for children and increase communication among teachers, parents, and staff. When treatment is indicated, support families in arranging for follow up care.
- Involve parents in the classroom in meaningful ways which demonstrate the belief that parents are the principal influence on their child's education and development.
- Share knowledge about the program’s curriculum, activities, philosophy, and teaching strategies with families. Help families develop their own strategies for supporting children’s learning at home.
- Establish effective relationships with preschool parents in order to assess family strengths and needs, document required information, track outcomes, and provide relevant referrals.
- Invite all parents to participate in a family goal setting process. Track family progress towards and completion of goals.
- Maintain ongoing communication with families in accordance with funder requirement and program policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with Pre School P-3 Home Visitors on families enrolled in both programs to support strong transitions for families and reduce duplication of services.
- CDA or AA in Early Childhood Education.
- Experience working with preschool age children.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to and work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and considerable self-direction.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Possess working knowledge of various computer software such as Work and Excel.
- Establish a professional development plan and participate in ongoing professional development.
- Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which may include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, entrepreneurialism, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Willingness to comply with Head Start/ECEAP Standards of Conduct by promoting the unique identity of each child and family; conforming with program confidentiality; following child supervision and guidance policies; and refraining from soliciting or accepting personal gratuities, favors, or anything of significant monetary value from contractors or potential contractors.
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel independently to Child Development service sites.
- Current Food Handlers certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
- Current First Aid certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
- Current CPR certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
- Current Blood Borne Pathogens training certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
- Child Protective Services (CPS) Training (within 2 weeks).
- Current Health Exam (must be obtained within 6 months prior to employment).
- Current screening for tuberculosis (must be obtained within 6 months prior to employment);rescreen as necessary.
- Department of Early Learning portable background check
- Must pass Neighborhood House’s Background Check Requirements.
- Current or former Head Start and Early Head Start parents receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified.
- Bi-lingual ability.
