Education and Career Navigator II - Healthcare

Department: Education & Community Services
Reports To: Employment & Adult Education Manager
Status: Regular, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year
FLSA: Non-exempt
Location: Raven Terrace, Rainier Vista, or Genesee Building
Hiring Range: 16 ($19.24 to $21.35 per hour)
Closing Date: September 8, 2017 or when filled 

Neighborhood House (NH) operates several employment and adult education programs that serve hundreds of individuals annually. These programs provide multilingual, multicultural case management and comprehensive training, placement, retention and career advancement support for job seekers throughout King County. Program locations include Seattle-King County Work Source centers, multiple NH sites and local community and technical college campuses.
Neighborhood House is partnering with Seattle Jobs Initiative on an innovative strategy to provide training opportunities to current entry-level employees of local healthcare employers that result in career advancement and wage progression. The Education & Career Navigator II will work closely with selected program participants to connect them to short-term healthcare training programs and wrap-around supportive services. This position will also coordinate referrals for job seekers looking to start a career in a healthcare setting. NH is looking for a highly skilled, highly motivated Education & Career Navigator to join this team.

Program Planning & Implementation
  • Collaborate with partners to identify, select, and develop specific training plans with clients looking to enter the healthcare sector or to advance their skills and earning potential within the healthcare sector. 
  • Connect job seekers participating in NH programs to entry-level jobs or careers with healthcare employers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other human service, educational, and case management organizations, including community based organizations, Seattle Housing Authority, Department of Social and Human Services and other partners.
  • Work with staff from other Neighborhood House programs to coordinate services and connect working families with available resources.
Navigation & Career Planning
  • Become familiar with complex funder regulations in order to determine client eligibility for programs and provide navigation support and services within this framework. Accurately complete extensive technical documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work with program participants to develop both short and long-term career plans for the healthcare sector.
  • Provide education navigation, including assistance with registration and preparation for college classes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with college departments and faculty/staff to stay up to date on student progress and offer student support.
  • Connect program participants to additional community resources and provide supportive services.
  • Provide job readiness training using existing curriculum, and coach program participants applying for jobs with healthcare employers.
  • Organize and facilitate program information sessions and job search workshops for small groups of program participants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • AA degree in Human Services, Social Work, Education or a healthcare related field. Relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Two to four years professional experience in case management, instruction, and/or career development services with adults, or any combination of the above which provides equivalent preparation. Particular knowledge of the healthcare workforce in King County is strongly desired.
  • Certification/formal training in case management highly desired.
  • Detailed understanding of career pathways within the healthcare sector as well as the college system, including a proven ability to navigate the various systems of student education and support available on campus.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of local ethnic communities and low-income populations.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and considerable self-direction.
  • Ability to navigate relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers, clients and partners.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Willingness to comply with agency performance standards which may include productivity, personal responsibility, client/customer service, teamwork and maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends or evenings as necessary.
  • CPR & First Aid Training (within 30 days of hire).
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Training (within 2 weeks of hire).
  • Must pass Neighborhood House Background Check Requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bi-lingual ability preferred, with English skills sufficient to communicate and prepare documents in English.
  • BA/BS degree in Human Services, Social Work, Education or related healthcare field.
