Temporary Accountant II

Accountant II - Temporary

Department: Administration
Reports To: Controller
Status: Temporary, 40 hours per week, 6 months per year
Location: Weller
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Hiring Range: 19 ($21.06 to $23.40 per hour)
Close Date: Friday September 8, 2017, or another option  

 The General Accountant II position performs general accounting functions which may include grant billing and monitoring, maintaining grant files, reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, insurance, allocations, fixed assets and audit support. In addition, the General Accountant II
 will be trained on and assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.

  • Reconcile general ledger balance sheet accounts, revenue and investment accounts.
  • Prepare journal entries including monthly indirect entries and other adjusting entries.
  • Maintain fixed asset and other schedules.
  • Prepare various expenditure reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit state revenue and tax reports.
  • Assist auditors during audit process.
  • Prepare backup documentation for IRS Form 990s.
  • Invoice funding sources, including federal payment management system.
  • Prepare grantor financial reports and monitor sub-awards meeting grant requirements.
  • Assist with cost allocation process.
  • Perform or assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

   Minimum Qualifications
  •   AA in Accounting (BA preferred) and 2 years accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience (with Department Director’s approval).
  • Proficient in Excel and demonstrated knowledge of Word and Access software programs.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skill with the ability to multitask and prioritize with relatively limited supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Position includes considerable importing and exporting of data, use of pivot tables.
  • Must be able to learn, navigate and use multiple databases, including financial software, internal Access databases and spreadsheet tools, online grantor and banking databases.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective positive professional relationships with staff, management, and external contacts.
  • Flexible work hours with occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Ability to work with and be sensitive to a diverse cultural, ethnic and racial population.
  • Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which may include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Child Abuse Training within 90 days of employment.
  • Must pass Neighborhood House background check requirements.
  • Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.
   Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in Not for Profit accounting.
  • Experience with MIP Accounting Software.
