Family and Health Services Coordinator

Department: Child Development
Reports To: Family and Health Services Manager - Preschool
Status: Regular, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Hiring Range: 21 ($22.42 to $24.87 per hour)
Location: High Point

The mission of Neighborhood House (NH) is to help diverse communities of people with limited resources attain their goals for self-sufficiency, health, financial independence and community building. All NH programs and services are designed to fulfill this mission in accordance with the NH Strategic Plan. All NH Child Development staff function within this mission framework and strategic plan by contributing to the school readiness of low-income children and supporting their parents, care givers and community.
The primary responsibility of the Family and Health Services Coordinator is the provision and oversight of the preschool family, health, nutrition, and parent engagement services. The Family and Health Services Coordinator guides and supervises Family advocates and Food Services Workers in their provision of high quality services.


alth and Nutrition Services
  • Assist families linking them to ongoing health care system.
  • Monitor to ensure all preschool children are growing and developing in a healthy manner.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about the importance of having medical and dental exams on recommended schedule.
  • Assist in arranging follow-up care for children with identified needs and provide info and referral sources for health, dental and nutrition.
  • Before first day of class, review children’s enrollment file to ensure that children are up to date in their immunization, and that appropriate meeting and plan is in place for children with allergies and serious health conditions, including those needing rescue medications.
  • Follow up on health and nutrition related concerns identified by consultants and other staff members as needed.
  • Distribute supplies and monitor assigned sites and assure they are adequately stocked and the environment is sanitary and safe.
  • Participate in regular ongoing monitoring activities at assigned site with the Health and Family Services Manager. Collaborate with the Health and Family Services team to create systems for tracking and monitoring health data effectively.
  • In collaboration with Education Supervisors and with the support of the Health and Family Services Manager, coordinate and oversee health screening and follow up at assigned sites.
  • Work with program consultants as needed to assess health and nutrition services at the assigned site.
Ongoing Supervision, Reflection and Support
  • Provide supervision and ongoing support to Family Advocates and Food Service Workers at an assigned preschool site. Conduct Performance Evaluations and Professional Development Plans for each staff member supervised.
  • Conduct monitoring to ensure that health and family services records are collected and maintained in timely, complete and accurate manner.
  • Support Family Advocates in handling challenging situations and sensitive conversations with families as needed. Model a strengths-based approach to work with families and the community.
  • Oversee development of individualized family partnership goals and guide and support the Family Advocates in helping families to achieve these goals through appropriate education, advocacy and referrals.
  • Provide leadership, motivation and weekly coaching and reflection to Family
  • Advocates and Food Service Workers.
  • Facilitate strong ongoing communication regarding health, nutrition and family services at the assigned site.
Other Duties
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Attend all required meetings with preschool team and with agency partners.
  • Participate in staff training and other professional development activities.
  • Maintain program performance standards and meet all reporting requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Parent, Family and Community Engagement
  • Work with staff in eligibility, recruitment, selection, enrollment of preschool children.
  • Support the development of positive and effective relationships with families.
  • Support successful implementation the Head Start Parent, Family and Community
  • Engagement Framework in the preschool program.
  • In collaboration with other program staff, plan and implement parent training and education events.
  • In cooperation with the Seattle Public Schools, Early Head Start Education Supervisor, and Head start Education Supervisors, facilitates transitioning of families and children from Early Head Start to Head Start and from Head Start to Kindergarten.
  • Take a leadership role in enhancing parent participation in Policy Council, Parent Center meetings, Parent Peer group meetings, orientation, trainings, and other program related events and gatherings.
  • Provide Comprehensive family support and advocacy services to assigned families.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in social work, health, psychology, or other human services field.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate sensitively and comprehensively in family matters related to education, social service, family issues and health and nutrition.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather information and resources, to network and to make referrals.
  • Bilingual ability preferred (Somali or other East African language).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, other databases).
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to and work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which may include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, entrepreneurialism, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Willingness to comply with Head Start/ECEAP Standards of Conduct by promoting the unique identity of each child and family; conforming with program confidentiality; following child supervision and guidance policies; and refraining from soliciting or accepting personal gratuities, favors, or anything of significant monetary value from contractors or potential contractors.
  • First Aid Certification (within 30 days of hire).
  • CPR Certification (within 30 days of hire).
  • Current Food Handlers Certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
  • Current Blood Borne Pathogen Training within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
  • Child Abuse and Neglect training (within 2 weeks of hire).
  • Current Health Exam (must be obtained prior to employment {PS 1304.52}).
  • Current screening for tuberculosis (must be obtained prior to employment); rescreen as necessary{PS 1304.52}.
  • Department of Early Learning portable background check
  • Must pass Neighborhood House’s Background Check’s Requirements.
  • Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.
