THE NEED
High Point is in the midst of being redeveloped from an isolated, low-income community into a healthy, mixed-income community. What was once one of the most heavily-concentrated pockets of poverty in King County is on its way to becoming a neighborhood of choice. People will choose to live there not only because of High Point's natural beauty and award-winning design, but because it is a place where people from many cultures live together as neighbors.

The High Point Neighborhood Center will serve as the catalyst for the creation of this strong and diverse community at High Point. The center will be home to multilingual programs and activities focused on building relationships among neighbors, nurturing youth, bolstering family strength and affirming diversity.

THE VISION
The vision of this new center is to create a community living room where:

  • Children rush after school with their friends to use computers and meet with parents, mentors and tutors. They are excited by learning and getting the best possible start for their future.
  • Adults and families can easily access community resources, find help in gaining employment, meet with case managers and talk with other parents in the neighborhood.
  • Diversity is valued, and a community kitchen and cafe become cultural bridges where individuals and families gather, where multilingual conversations and the aromas of shared meals fill the air.
  • Preschoolers of diverse backgrounds begin to learn about themselves and others through games and songs in Head Start.
  • Teenagers can have an appealing option available to gather, connect and take part in recreational and leadership-development activities designed specifically for them.
THE GOAL
In order to build a center that will serve such critical needs in a growing community, we need to raise $13 million. To reach that goal, we'll need the support of public officials, foundations and friends like you who are dedicated to building strong, sound and economically-diverse neigborhoods in Seattle.
