Youth program (YELS) volunteer -- cooking

Program: Youth Empowered w/Leadership Strengths
Title of volunteer position: YUM Volunteer
Number of volunteers requested: 3-5
Goal of position: To provide mentorship to a group of 15-25 youth within the structure of cooking program.
SAMPLE ACTIVITIES:
Learning about cooking within the larger cultural context of the High Point community, cooking (vegan/vegetarian) and sharing meals, exploring basic kitchen skills, community gardening, and politics of food production.
TIMEFRAME: As soon as possible
Length of commitment: Flexible, minimum 2 months
Hours per week: 4-6 hours/bi-monthly
Scheduling: Alternate Mondays, 3:30 pm - 7pm
Work site: High Point Center, West Seattle
QUALIFICATIONS:
1-2 years of working/ leading groups of multiethnic youth.
Highly positive and enthusiastic style capable of motivating youth.
Desire and commitment to be a good role model and mentor youth in the program.
Ability to articulate the value of education and learning.
No cooking/kitchen experience required.
