Home Visitor - PCHP - Bilingual in Spanish

Status: Regular, 40 hours per week, 8 months per year
Hiring Range: 09 ($15.97 to $17.77 per hour)

Child Development Department staff support the Neighborhood House mission framework and Strategic Plan by contributing to the school readiness of low-income children and supporting their parents, care givers and community. The PCHP Home Visitor conducts home visits for families with young children, using The Parent-Child Home Program Model an evidence based, research validated early childhood literacy, parenting and school readiness program. Bilingual in Spanish/English or Amharic/English.

- Conduct twice-weekly, 30 minute home visits using the Parent-Child Home Program Model, including an introduction and review visit.
- Work closely with supervisors to recruit, interview and select families for home visits.
- Work closely with supervisor to build home visiting best practices; using trust, reflection and accepting feedback in a continuous learning cycle.
- Write anecdotal descriptions of home visits.
- Complete required assessments using the Child Behavior Traits , Parent and Child Together and other assessment tools as assigned.
- Maintain accurate and complete records for families.
- Encourage families attendance at outside activities that support their child’s and family’s development.
- Work independently and maintain schedule for home visits.
- Model for the parent how to respond appropriately to the behavior of two and three year old children.
- Model for the parent, literacy skills, and appropriate ways to verbally interact with children using the toy or book.
- Encourage parents to realize their role as the child’s first and most important teacher.
- Utilize the “light touch” model with families; ensuring a non-directive, non- judgmental and confidential approach, with definitive boundaries.
- Maintains a playful learning approach with children and parents.
- Refer families to other community resources upon request.
- Participate in research activities conducted by The Parent-Child Home Program’s National Center.
- Attend weekly program meetings and other PCHP required meetings/trainings as scheduled.
- Supportive of other Home Visitors and is constructive when participating in feedback and reflection.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- One year of working with children in families; either volunteer or paid in the communities.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to families in a variety of home and environmental situations.
- Experience working with low income families of diverse ethnic, language and cultural backgrounds.
- Basic child development knowledge.
- Expressed interest in play and children’s books.
- Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service orientation, embracing a team player orientation, entrepreneurialism, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Willingness to comply with Parent-Child Home Program’s national standards.
- Must have reliable, independent transportation for frequent travel between sites and to client homes.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English.
- First Aid Certification (within 30 days of hire).
- CPR Certification (within 30 days of hire).
- Sexual Harassment Training within 30 days of hire.
- Bloodborne pathogens training within 30 days of hire.
- Child Abuse and Neglect training (within 2 weeks of hire).
- Current health exam (must be obtained prior to employment).
- Current screening for tuberculosis (must be obtained prior to employment); rescreen as necessary.
- Department of Early Learning portable background check
- Must pass Neighborhood House Background Check Requirement.
- Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.
- Experience working with groups and/or families from diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
