POSITION TITLE: Lead Instructor for Beginners ESL Class
BACKGROUND AND PROGRAM SCOPE:
Neighborhood House partners with diverse individuals and families to build community and achieve their goals for health, education and self-sufficiency. The Neighborhood House Family Resource Center provides a variety of services to the High Point community.
The Family Resource Center in currently offering level 1-2 ESL classes for students interested in improving their English language skills. The class currently meets on Tuesdays from 9:30-11:00am and Thursday from 10:00am-12:30pm. We are looking for classroom assistants to support students with their class work. On Tuesdays, the class is more informal and an opportunity for students to practice what they have learned in class. On Thursdays, the class is run more traditionally with an instructor in front of the room.
Having volunteers present during these classes provides an opportunity for students to receive more personalized support based on their specific language development needs. We are seeking volunteers who are kind and who can work with our clients in a patient and respectful manner. There is no need to have prior training in ESL instruction.
- Experience instructing ESL classes
- Ability to work with a team of volunteers
- Experience working in culturally diverse settings
- Ability to work with people in a kind and patient manner
Our current need is for classes on Tuesdays from 9:30-11:00am and Thursdays from 10:00am-12noon. Volunteers should be able to commit to at least one full class session per week.
